Republican Kirk Dillard served with Barack Obama in the Illinois State Senate. He was so impressed with Obama that he cut a campaign commercial touting Obama's bipartisan success in Illinois. The commercial ran throughout the early 2008 primary season.
No good deed goes unpunished, however, and Dillard faced serious push-back from members of the GOP, including the possible loss of a Senate leadership role, despite serving as a delegate for John McCain.
